Plastic Waste Crisis in Haiti
Haiti faces significant challenges with waste management, particularly with plastic waste.
Limited Waste Management
Only 7% of waste in Port-Au-Prince is collected by public services, with the rest ending up in waterways and the ocean.
Environmental Impact
Plastic waste clogs drainage systems, causing flooding, and pollutes marine ecosystems. Plastic can take up to 400 years to degrade.
Collector Challenges
Waste collectors work in difficult conditions with health risks and low income, earning approximately $4 per day to support families of 6 or more.

Frequently Asked Questions for Collectors
Find answers to common questions about joining our collector network
We collect five types of plastic: PET (water bottles), HDPE (detergent bottles), LDPE (plastic bags), PP (chairs, buckets), and ABS (electronics, toys). Each type has different value and processing requirements.
Collectors typically earn based on the weight and type of plastic collected. Our rates are competitive, with some materials like ABS and LDPE in granule form fetching higher prices. On average, dedicated collectors can earn significantly more than the typical $4 per day that informal waste collectors make.
We provide protective equipment, safety gear, storage solutions, training on collection techniques, healthcare support, education assistance for collectors' children, and fair, transparent pricing with bonuses for pre-sorted materials.
We have 52 collection points across Haiti, located in the departments of the West, South, Southeast, and North. We continue to expand our network to make drop-offs more convenient.
While not required, we offer bonuses for pre-sorted materials. We provide training on how to identify and sort different types of plastic to maximize your earnings.
